CATT started in the SW of Britain (Cornwall) in 2022 and current tasks include:

finding the most cost-efficient and reliable long-term moorings for F-POD acoustic loggers

identifying collateral benefits

developing analysis tools for determining trends

identifying any technical problems

training, research, education and community involvement

developing a network of participating groups

developing the role of citizen science

CATT uses F-POD passive acoustic loggers that enable the detection of cetacean echo-location click trains.Funding is provided by Chelonia Limited, the manufacturer of the F-POD. The C-POD, the predecessor of the F-POD, was selected to monitor the trend in the world's most threatened cetacean - the Vaquita, in the Gulf of California, and have exceeded all expectations by making the trend apparent even when the population is below 20 animals.
